DIY Automatic Liquid Dispenser with proximity sensor [No Arduino version]

People are likely to use the automated products in day to day lifes and spending way more money making every work automated. So, in those criteria here comes a liquid dispenser which is used to pour liquid through the outlet directly to the container or simply a glass.

You might have heard about drinking water dispenser which pours water through the outlet tap when you turn it on by pressing the button or rotating the tap. So, here we are trying to automate this process so liquid from the tank or bottle automatically gets poured in to the glass when you put glass in front of it through the outlet pipe.

You can use this project as alcoholic liquid sanitizer dispenser, simple water dispenser, wine dispenser and any type of liquid dispenser. So lets get started with requirements list for this project.

Components Used:

  • Proximity infrared sensor.
  • Small DC Water Pump.
  • TIP32C PNP Transistor.
  • 1K ohm Resistor.
  • Small wires.
  • Old USB cable for power source (optional).
  • A small pipe according to the requirement.(Aquarium pipe used).
  • A bottle with liquid to pour.
  • Powerbank or mobile charger (used as 5V power source).

Procedure

Here we are implementing the idea with smaller bottle or jar and mini water pump, you can create a bigger and powerful one according to your requirement.

Take a lid of a jar and drill holes for wiring and pipe, one hole should be bigger for pipe and one for water pump wiring.

Now connect one end of the pipe to DC water pump and pull other end out of the lid pipe hole and also pull the motor wiring out through the other hole. you can glue it according to the bottle height so they will be firmly placed. as shown in the below picture

Now after connecting exactly as shown in the circuit diagram cover all the open wires and sensor board with hot glue so that no liquid will fall on it and destroy the board. Note: don’t cover the  led’s on the sensor board.

After everything above done you need a power source for your project to run. As to reduce the cost of the project we used a mobile charger as a power source which outputs 5V DC current. You can also use a power bank as a power source. Or you can fix a small battery with charging module but it will be little bulky on the lid.

For best view  cover the whole lid with a diy cardboard piping as shown in the below picture

Working of DIY liquid dispenser

After all the setup is completed you can turn on the power source by connecting USB to power bank or phone charger. then you can observe an led power indicator on the proximity sensor board.

Now test the project by placing the hand or glass before the sensor and below the outlet pipe the the pump should turn on and liquid comes out through the outlet pipe.

Adjust the sensitivity of the proximity sensor buy adjusting the screw on it and enjoy the flow with automated liquid dispenser or automatic wine dispenser.

Use Cases:

  • Can use this as a water dispenser from a jar or bottle.
  • Can be used a wine dispenser or wine server without lifting the bottle.
  • Can also be used as cool drinks dispenser.

So why don’t you make a try to make this cheap and easy liquid dispenser and share your views by commenting below.
